For hip-hop dancers and choreographers Tymme and Aury Reitz, dance isn’t the ultimate calling. But it’s a way to achieve the ultimate calling.

This month, the Reitzs’ kicked off their latest project, which partners their dance ministry Word in Motion with a brand new dance and fitness studio, Time 4 Class. This alliance not only gives the Reitzs’ company a new home, but it also provides new opportunities for their community to enjoy dance.



Big Ballet Breaks the Traditional Dancer Mold

With the company’s work billed as “a comedy ballet of weighty elegance and adorable humour,” the Evgenii Panfilov Russian State Ballet, or the “Big Ballet,” offers classical art from non-traditional performers. 16 dancers make up the Big Ballet, and each one weighs over 200 pounds.

Cirque du Soleil’s “DELIRIUM” Near You for a Limited Time

Ability in Dance

You might often feel like you’re wrestling with your body during dance class. You want to push yourself into a perfect turnout. You discipline your muscles to perform flawless pirouettes.

But in rehearsals at AXIS Dance Company, Inflight Dance Company, Keshet Dance Company, or Propeller Dance, dance isn’t about forcing your body to obey technique. It’s all about embracing your body’s ability for creative movement. And for the dancers in these companies, passion overcomes any physical limitations.

These dancers have a special knowledge of movement. That’s because they practice as dancers with disabilities.

A Sense for Movement: Yo-el Cassell’s Expression Through Dance

Yo-el Cassell doesn’t hear in the same way you or I or most other people do. He hears with his hands.

Cassell, a dancer and the artistic director of YC Movement Theater, was born with a hearing impairment that has turned out to be a blessing in many ways. In fact, if it hadn’t been for his hearing impairment, he may never have learned the art of dance and movement.

Fela! tells the story of Fela Kuti, the famous Nigerian Afrobeat musician and human-rights activist who fought to empower the deprived Nigerian people through his music and his life.
