    A little about Shana:

    • Where are You From? “I grew up in Dallas, Pennsylvania.”
    • Did you come from a family that was already interested in dance? “No, but my family has a vast amount of musical talent in the areas such as the piano, guitar, drums, singing, etc.”

    Life as a dancer:

    • Why did you first become interested in dance? “I always loved to play dance with my dolls and pretend I was the teacher and the dolls were my students. Everyday, I would dress up and teach my dolls and dance with them. My mother would always tell me that she wanted to sign me up for dance lessons, and I couldn’t wait to begin.”
    • When did you begin studying dance? “At the age of three.”
    • Is there a specific dancer, choreographer, or even a composer, who has inspired you as a dancer? “Along with dance, I am also an actress. Corinna Sowers-Adler has been an inspiration in my life since I was 8. She has directed me in over 30 shows. She gave me the opportunity to choreograph the entire musical theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was quite the experience, and it felt good to see that my theatre friends were all looking up to me as a role model. This certainly will never be forgotten.”
    • Describe the performances that, when looking back on your years in dance, you would you name as your highest points? “My very first recital is probably the most memorable performance. I’ll never forget the excitement and nervousness that ran through my body before stepping onto the stage with hundreds of people watching. I have also been in several performances that did not go over so well, and in the end were never forgotten. Also, my first recital on pointe…”

    Working in dance:

    • How would you compare the pressures and responsibilities of performing and teaching? Which role do you prefer? “I enjoy both the same amount. It’s fun to be in charge, but at the same time it’s fun to be the learner/dancer.”
    • When it comes to dance and the dance industry, you are often the go-to person for advice on…? “Jazz, which is my favorite type of dance.”
