This, of course, means that it was your job. So what did you think of Courtney, Chelsie, Katee, Mark, Joshua, and Twitch?
What? You didn’t see the show last night? Well, we have the recap that you’ll need for tonight!

You might often feel like you’re wrestling with your body during dance class. You want to push yourself into a perfect turnout. You discipline your muscles to perform flawless pirouettes.
But in rehearsals at AXIS Dance Company, Inflight Dance Company, Keshet Dance Company, or Propeller Dance, dance isn’t about forcing your body to obey technique. It’s all about embracing your body’s ability for creative movement. And for the dancers in these companies, passion overcomes any physical limitations.
These dancers have a special knowledge of movement. That’s because they practice as dancers with disabilities.

For over a decade, dancers, choreographers, and teachers Álvaro Restrepo and Marie-France Delieuvin have brought life and possibility to young Colombians through the art of contemporary dance.
“The Body College” (“El Colegio del Cuerpo”) is the result of Restrepo’s and Delieuvin’s efforts. The school, a contemporary dance academy, serves the poverty-stricken north Caribbean coast of Colombia and, in particular, the city of Cartagena. The Body College’s mission: to teach Colombians a new “ethics of the body” that may help them gain self-respect and overcome violence.

Wow.
After Wednesday night’s episode, I thought I had a good idea of which four contestants would dance solos during Thursday night’s elimination. But, when Cat revealed the bottom-four dancers, I was rather surprised.

Although there were fewer contestants and fewer performances during Wednesday night’s So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) episode 423, the two-hour top-eight show was still packed. And I think that this episode left viewers to make the most difficult eliminations so far.
Will we see Comfort and Mark in the bottom-four again tonight? Click on the title of this post to read our recap of “So You Think You Can Dance” episode 423, from Wednesday, July 23.

Does dancing make you feel happier? Can it beat depression?
If you’re a trained dancer, you probably get an emotional boost from dancing. If you’re feeling sad or depressed, dance class or rehearsal might be your escape. This effect comes, partly, because you’re practicing something you love, something that you do well.
But, can dance help non-dancers beat depression? This question is being answered through several experiments, one scientific and the other not so formal.

Even if you haven’t trained in ballet, modern dance, jazz, or tap, watching performances in all of these styles has probably helped you understand them. But liturgical dance is one style that is relatively unknown to people who don’t practice it.

Yo-el Cassell doesn’t hear in the same way you or I or most other people do. He hears with his hands.
Cassell, a dancer and the artistic director of YC Movement Theater, was born with a hearing impairment that has turned out to be a blessing in many ways. In fact, if it hadn’t been for his hearing impairment, he may never have learned the art of dance and movement.
Click on the title of this post to read more about Cassell, and to find out how you can see him present a new work on August 20, 2008 at The Depot Theatre in Westport, New York.

This year, we will get to watch the XXIX Olympiad. The games open on August 8, 2008 and will run through August 24 in Beijing, China.
One of the Summer Olympic categories that I love most is gymnastics. When I was little, I forgot about my regular hobbies for a couple of weeks every four summers, and I insisted that I would someday become a gymnast.
Now, I’m much too old—and probably too tall—to consider a career in gymnastics. But, I’m still excited that the Summer Olympics are coming up. And, with the games approaching, I thought I’d do a brief history on rhythmic gymnastics, which is very similar to dance in several ways.

Can you learn ballet through the Internet?
Some do-it-yourself dancers are skipping lessons and turning to YouTube for ballet instruction. Judging from many videos, from both students and demonstrators, maybe the risks of such lessons should be made clear.
